Nice Robin. What camcorder were you using ?

I'm looking forward to diving the cenotes. Of all the cenote photo and videos I've seen, I like the surface silhouette/light rays more than the internal cave shots. I think it might be hard to capture the feeling of the cave unless you have a very wide angle lens and tons of light. Guess I will have to go see for myself.

I am using a little HC-62 camcorder, not HD and not one I would ever take underwater. I plan to get an HD setup as soon as we can afford it.

Andyes, very true about the lighting. I think there are several cenotes that will look awesome on video because of the natural lighting from openings. Unfortunately for us, those are some of the more popular ones, so busier with divers and snorkelers. Nicholas told us that 2 of his favorites are Ponderosa (because of the lighting) and Taj Maha because it has a little bit of everything - indirect and direct lighting, interesting formations and decorations, a halocline, etc.

I'm staying in Playa, so I'll have some flexibility timewise to avoid the crowds. I'll have to discuss it with Nicholas.

UW HD cams is in a little bit of a transition. New cams out are getting good reviews, but housings are not here yet, so you don't know how they will perform UW or how easy they will access the key controls.

Another concern is the exit of tape. New codecs are not as easy to edit. Plus the issue of rendered output. Does it look as good as the original raw ? With HDV tape it did. I'm not convinced about AVC. May take some time for editing sw to catch up.
