It’s crazy! So many of my family in friends are like, wow I would never go diving. That’s one of the reasons I eventually wanna get into UW photography. To show those who can’t or won’t dive what’s down there

I assume you're "independently well off"? If you thought diving wasn't the cheapest hobby to pick up, wait till you see the price tags on photo gear.

not really, but I use my extra money/save it for dive gear rather than eat out, shop etc.
I already have a camera and lens, so mainly I need a housing. which is still pretty expensive but could easily be saved for. going to need to research about if I need a different lens though

Lighting, you will need lighting which is very expensive.
