A man has drowned following a diving accident in coastal waters between Queenscliff and Barwon Heads on Wednesday morning.

It’s understood the man was with three other divers when he got into trouble while diving near the HMAS Canberra shipwreck around 9.30am.

He was pulled from the water unresponsive by the other divers, who performed CPR while he was taken to a boat ramp on Queenscliff harbour.

Emergency services rushed to the ramp, but despite the best efforts of paramedics the man was unable to be saved.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
