Finally found some time to get away and get a dive in!!!

When I go to the lot at Vets, there were a few people contemplating the idea of getting wet. Some sat and enjoyed each others company while others decided to take the plunge. The latest report from Phil was 3-5 foot vis but that still did not stop a few brave souls. Dana, Scott and Bob hit the water first and we went in shortly after them.

After gearing up and working our way to the middle stairs we started to make our way across the sand when all of a sudden we ran into a baby Sea Lion. He did not look sick or injured but something had to be up because this is something that rarely happens. Hopefully he will be OK.

Entry was a piece of cake so we finned out to the end of the pier and dropped down into murky water. After we hit the bottom and began our way into the canyon, we came across a huge sea potato. We dug him out just to see what the heck he looked like. As we moved along, the vis was not getting any better. At 75 feet it still was not looking that good. There were on the other hand many squid egg clusters and a few squid hanging around here and there. Because of the poor visibility we decided to go slow, take our time and hunt for critters. On the way back east, we came across a decent amount of nudis. The subjects were pretty small and the only thing that was worse then the visibility was my luck getting a decent shot off. This was not my night for taking decent pictures. Oh well, better luck next time.

As we made our way into the shallows, we ran into a ton of Cusk Eels. I took a pretty cool video so I will try to embed it below. We also ran into a few lines here and there along with a cinderblock that was teaming with Hemphill's Kelp Crabs. Next to the cinderblock resting in the sand was a gigantic Midshipman who did not mind us hanging around. Another odd thing we found was a small cluster of squid eggs at 25 feet. I have never seen a cluster so shallow before.

Even with the poor vis, we still had a great time

Below are some pictures (not my best work) of some of the things we ran across:
