Any thoughts what the name of this might be? Found it at Back Beach, Cape Ann, Mass. The top part was less than 1/2 in diameter with the total length at about 2 inches. It was about 2 feet from the surface. Was just lucky the camera's autofocus found it!

I think it's a ctenophore of some sort. Let me confer with world famous salsa dancer and ctenophore researcher Naoko.

She says "Mertensia ovum". She doesn't know what the common name would be other than comb jelly. Ovum means egg.
Concur. The Ctenophore Mertensia ovum. One other common name is "Sea Gooseberry," but "Comb Jelly" is far more common in my experience.
