Hello:
I am finally taking advantage of living in Wilmington, NC and am just certified open water diver. I am looking for advice on getting my kit togther, where to go, to meet folks etc.
I am a 46 year old Brit living in NC.
The gear is sooo expensive and its bewildering with all the choices--yikes!! Help!
Looking forward to hearing from some of you,
Jude

Welcome to the party line...

I was just up yonder - Atlatnic Beach, that is, diving on the wrecks. Had a Brit with us one day.

Yeah, it's all pretty pricey. But it's pretty important life support!!

Welcome to SCUBA and the board!

As you check out the gear sections of the board, you'll probably notice that people can talk all day about gear... I began buying gear with replacing the most expensive rental items. Depending on the type of diving you plan to do, you may be surprised at some of the affordable options you have that don't sacrifice quality - of course, as with anything you often will pay for high performance. But hey, even my cheap little car gets me and my gear where we need to go. ;)

Check out reviews, ask around, and remember that you don't always have to shell out a ton of money to get a decent piece of dependable gear.

As far as meeting people and finding the dive sites, this is a great place to start!
