Hey all- My dive buddy and I are talking a road trip at the end of April to Venice, Florida for two days (shark teeth diving) and five days at Ginnie Springs for Cavern and Intro to Cave. We're both dive-aholics and will spend 80% of our time diving, prepping or cleaning up. We are looking for cheap but clean places to stay in Venice (near the water) and near Ginnie Springs (High Springs) (we're not camper types- we like showers and air conditioning). Any suggestions from you regulars out there? Everything in Venice looks way too nice or way too gross thus far. ;)

Last time I went to Venice, I found a new (to me) place to stay. Addy's Villas, in Nokomis, which is only a couple of miles north of Venice. These are not hotel rooms, but 2 or 4 bedroom duplexes that are fully furnished, with equipped kitchens. I was there off season, but seem to recall paying less for a 2 bedroom than I could have stayed for at just about any hotel. Or, there is always the Motel 6, they'll leave a light on for you!

I'd suggest Jim Wyatt's Hotel California. It's a large house with the fastest internet in the area. You can reach Jim Wyatt at cavediveflorida.com

I went to Ginnie Springs with the family 3 years ago and stayed at the Courtyard Inn closer to Tallahasse.

I am also going to Venice in June for a shark tooth dive prior to our Boca Grande vacation.
Planing on staying at the Fairfield Inn or Motel 6.
LIVIN LARGE!

If you planning to come down for some diving give us a call, we have a large house and have divers from all over stay with us all the time. We also have lots of connection locally that we can recommend, we don't charge we just like to dive with friends and make new ones all the time. Look us up https://www.facebook.com/Mermaid4Life

I think this place is the closest you can get to the beach in Venice.

Welcome to Inn at the Beach

I'm a local, so I've never stayed, so I could not give you an opinion. But you are right across the street from the public beach. I'm trying to look for other places in the area, but I think the rest of the area are just condos.

Another place not mentioned is a Hampton Inn & Suites just north of Venice, that's probably a...maybe 5 minute drive from the beach?

There is a fair mom and pop motel called the country inn in high springs. There are even large hooks outside the door to hang wetsuits and gear. http://highspringscountryinn.com/home/

The next closest hotel that is live able is in Alachua, the Quality inn.

Not a fan. I had a bad experience there. While Cadillac is not much better, I have never had a shower with boogers wiped on the wall, dead bugs stuck to the coffee stains on the phone and table tops, and a cleaning lady who says "don't leave I am cleaning it now for you" as she walks in to the room smoking holding a can of lysol and a rag.

A brand new Ramada Inn opened this week on the US41 Bypass here in Venice, was a old Holiday Inn but has been completly remodeled. Inn is just off the Island but in the center of of everything. Inn on the Beach and Hampton Inn are nice, but a bit pricey. Now no need to stay out at the interstate (Fairfield and others). Be aware it is High Season now and Spring Break begins in mid-march, so all room rates are all a bit high. Give us a call at the shop and we can provide more info on diving and lodging. Also check our web site.
