I didn't think of that, Julius. I wear an open-cell because I hate water transfer. Thanks for bringing this up.

I also realised that a lot of wetsuits have a zipper where I would attach the velcro.

The velcro won't hold even if stitched on and where you want to put it there's a cummerbund supposed to be doing some of the work
When I'm diving along on my back the gear hangs away from the body or if I go off on some downward angle then the gear goes a bit in that direction too. the thing is to get used to the movement of the tank and try to minimise it by anticipating and incorporate it into your manoeuvre so the momentum of the tank doesn't take you further than you want to go
When I surface fins first with an inflated dsmb with a head drawn on it and stay that way for a minute signaling the boat crew that I'm ok with my fins that leads to my gear hanging most awkwardly and an unimpressed boat

That's very interesting, Julius. No one has ever shown me that method of ascending.

I like the idea of anticipating the movement of the tank. Or better using the BCD position as an indicator for sub-optimal trim.

I'll keep it loose and monitor the position and movements of the BCD depending on my trim.

Do you go diving at La Balsa Park? I'll be there more often to improve my technique.

You will certainly improve your technique in two metres bobbing about in boat wash on top of silt

I swam across the river and back on a rebreather earlier this year but I'm retired from diving

That's why I thought about something that "just" holds the BCD in place without having to use force to detach.
A velcro strip would do the job without raising issues (so I think That's why I raised the question here to see if someone comes up with a good reason not to use velcro.

I'm not familiar with the particular BCD you are using, but if you figure out a spot on the back to attach a crotch strap, then you can do the other end with a 5cm piece of double sided Velcro (hook on one side, loop on the other). The velcro end then gets sandwiched in the cumberbund Velcro. I did this for a while with an old cumberbund only bcd, and it holds great in tension, but pulls loose easy once the cumberbund is opened (makes removal in emergencies almost a non factor).
