Hello,
I'm interested in buying my first BC (yay:yea: ), which I will be using in rec diving, and I'm considering the Mares Vector 1000 or Vector Chrome.
I would like to ask you which one do you think I should choose, and what are the differences between them?
Also, since I'm not so familiar with many BC's, feel free to recommend me about any other BC.
Oh and by the way, the guy at the diving gear shop recommended me to buy the Mares DragonFly rather than the Vector 1000. I don't know why, but I had a gut feeling that it isn't a good BC. What do you think about the DragonFly and it's unique inflator?
Any comments and suggestions are welcome :)

I think one of the major differences is the 1000 uses 1000 grade nylon while the chrome uses 840 grade.

Probably more rings and stuff also. Check out the mares website. They are pretty good as describing their products and have a product comparison chart

Of the 2 BC's you mention (Mares Vector1000 and Vector Chrome), I think the Vector1000 is the better choice. I won't second guess why you have narrowed down your choices to these two BC's. I'm sure you have your reasons.

FYI, the following are a few BC's that seem to be pretty poplular on this board:
JacketType <Rec> : SeaQuest ProQD(+)
BackInflation <Rec>: Zeagle Ranger
BackPack/Harness <Tech>: Transpac II

The reason I narrowed my choice to these two is because I only know the mares BC's, and out of those the Vector1000 and Vector Chrome seemed to be the best.
But since I'm not familiar with other brands, I'll consider any suggestion about good BC's (preferable jacket style).

vector 1000 BCD is excellent. Strong and reliable, good lift capability, lots of d-rings to attach junk if need be, large zippered pockets to carry slates, torch, tables ,etc. Shoulder clips are good also allowing easy removal of BCD on the surface. Only drawback is black is not exactly a safey colour. One of the better BCD's on the market at a still reasonable price.:)

I'd definitely recommend you have a look at the SeaQuest ProQD+. I've had mine for about 4 months and am very pleased with it.

Also have a look at www.scubadiving.com - there are some good comparison tests of styles of BCs.

Regards
