A few years ago I was on a mailing list of Virginia Beach technical divers. I've been slack and haven't gone as far with my training as I had hoped.

Some friends and myself are doing a free event called a Mini Maker Faire in Norfolk at the Scope, and I seem to recall that some of them built some of their own gear. Be it canister lights, light upgrades. I think there was talk of someone not far from us building a mCCR or eCCR.

If that world still exists and lived past that mailing list, and there is any interest in our event (which is mostly centered around DIY) from the local tech diving community please PM me! It's free both for attendees and exhibitors, and I thought it would be fun to bring the diving element into it.

Ah thanks for the heads up! I faintly remember they moved to something else, didn't realize it was facebook!

The event isn't diving specific, it's Do-it-yourself (Maker Faires are tied to Make Magazine.) First Maker Faire in Virginia!

We're pinging schools and colleges and everything else. I know I'm always thinking up dive accessories to build, and I have followed a few forums where that was a large component.

Good times! Thanks for the info.

Patrick - you and me both! I have this awesome idea still! It seems like with LED though you could get away without the canister! I dove a canister at Blue Grotto and didn't find that it threw off balance much, but I was kind of worried about it (it mounted on side of tank.)

I've noticed the industry seems to be shifting away from HID and going the LED route.
