My wife and I just dove at Monterey Bay.... She was wearing a 3mm shorty under a 5mm full suit, topped off with a 5mm farmer john jacket. She was like Randy from the Christmas story.... "I can't put my arms down!"
She survived. I wore drysuit, but then had to deal with the heater on full blast for the drive home.
