This happened to this same school back in 1966:11: :11:

No, that was the University of Texas in 1966. That was a day I will never forget. :(

She is from Utah you will have to forgive her, they just got the telephone 5 years ago. . .

While the reality is that such a situation is exceedingly rare here, today also shows that the reality is that sometimes it does happen.

The law created a safe environment for the goblin to operate in. he knew that he could show up & shoot who ever he wanted with impunity, because everyone else is obeying the law & unarmed.

I believe that is because a floridian came out there. . .

Since this thread refers to the VA tragedy, maybe another thread about gun control would be more appropriate to discuss this. Who knows, it could even surpass the postings in the Creation/evolution or Global warming ones.

My brother went to Va Tech.

Most universities in Virginia require students and employees, other than police, to check their guns with police or campus security upon entering campus.
When guns are outlawed, only the outlaws have guns. I seriously doubt this cat would have checked his gun in and taken a stub.

Sounds like somebody got a 3.9

Sympathy to the victims families...for sure. poof..one day you are here and the next day you're gone.

Sounds like Va tech was like being in Bagdad there for a couple of hours.

Two hours between the killings?

Easy for me to say..but I hope the SWAT team was there at least by that point.

so do you optimize the law for the common case or the uncommon one?

Well, since I am not a lawmaker, I will do what is best for me, not the herd.
This was a fluke thing....Blacksburg is not exactly a dangerous place. Some unstable engineering student got a 3.9 or something equally as bizarre. How are you going to pass laws to accomodate that?

It's common knowledge that armed societies are polite societies if you look at the gun laws and the murder rates in America.

Watching the thread for what?, signs of life? Once you can't congregate and discuss something like this, you are really, really out to lunch, literally.
Biggest murder rampage in the history of America and you really think its more appropriate to discuss your snorkel?

At least Imus doesn't have a mike this morning.

This was a tragedy, and it appears to be over a woman.

Ordinarily, I would agree with you, but there is no way to talk about gun control without violating the TOS concerning political topics. I'll bring it up in The Dungeon, but don't get your hopes up.
