I'm about to purchase a dive computer but have problems choosing between the Uwatec Smart Pro and the Uwatec Aladin Tec. Both are obviously nice dive computers and none of them would be a "wrong choice".

As far as I can see the Aladin Tec has all that Smart Pro has except that Smart Pro can store more information. Personally I think Smart Pro looks better and have a bigger and clearer display, but is this enough to make be choose Smart Pro? Aladin Tec has additional functions like the bookmark function, silten option, full watch function, average depth indicator, stop watch, altimeter. Last but not least, with Aladin TEC you don't need a computer to change the alarm settings.

To me it looks like Aladin Tec is a better choice since the price is the same. Is there something I'm missing here? Any reason why someone would choose Smart Pro instead of Aladin Tec? Does Smart Pro has something that Aladin doesn't have? I know the comparison chart isn't showing everything about the computers.

Does anyone on this board have experience with the Aladin TEC? What do you think?

the smart pro has been in production for several years the aladin tec is relatively new, if this is an addition to existing gear your only option with smart pro is as a wrist computer, the aladin tec can replace an existing depth guage in a console. aside from display size I think the tec is the better choice.

Tec has user replaceable batteries and all functions are accessible with the buttons. The Smart Pro requires a computer to change some of its settings. Also the Tec has a reset function that allows switching in and out of the Gage mode without waiting forever. If you do this it does have obvious safety implications.

Aladin TEC has a great gauge mode (depth average indicator and one-press stopwatch function) - something the Smart pro does not have. If you are a technical diver, the Aladin TEC is the one to go for.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've now made up my mind and will go for the Aladin TEC. But as I said earlier, they both seem like very nice computers... except the manual perhaps :)

Products sharing a manual is never good for us, and I've also heard that the manual is a lot more complicated than needed. We'll see.

Hope you will enjoy it as I am happy with my Aladin Tec.

Agreed. I've only had mine a short time but really like the gauge mode.

Good choice. I thought that the TEC shared a manual with the Prime... Either way, I agree. And there are other portions of the manual I wasn't thrilled with. But I was OK with the graphic button map.
