Hello-

I dive with a Uwatec Smart Com computer. I've had great luck with the computer, and am looking to download my dives to my home PC. The only infrared receiver that I've seen is at the LDS (approx. $60). Since I know you can buy infrared receivers for much cheaper than this, I'm just wondering if anyone has this computer and which infrared device they are using?

Thanks for the help!

I am using a Fast IrDA with my Uwatec Smart Tec. I picked it up at Frye Electronics for about 25 bucks. Seems to work fine, just need to remember how close I need to be to the computer with it.

I've got a Smart Com too. After looking around at the UWATEC site at the available, compatible readers, I couldn't find but one company still in business. Then after calling several computer stores and google-ing, the cheapest I could find was around $50 + shipping. So for $10 more, I just went to the dive shop and said the heck with it. Below is the website I used. Maybe you'll have better luck with it.

My solution/approach has its pros and cons. But, if you have a PDA already... I transfer mine to a Sony CLIE PDA (Aqua Divelog software). It has a built in IrDA. Then I sync up my PDA to my desktop to get them into the SmartTrak software.

Pros - Already had the CLIE. Can download on the boat and see my profile, etc.
Cons - One more thing to carry around. More complicated to back up and keep files synchronized.

UWATEC Smart Com rocks! Even though I haven't had an opertunity to get in the water with mine yet because of the two Typhoons we have had recently here on Okinawa. Anyway I did a lot of research on the IrDA and based on my research you should go ahead and buy the on UWATEC maked for the Smart Com. I couple of extra bucks but well worth the no headache or hastle of haveing to tweek anything to make it work. Just my opinion thought......Keep in touch I'll let you know how everything works out when I get in the water very very soon......

You might want to check out the scubapro web site. It appears there is a voluntary recall on the smart com. Seems to me I read something on the board here about them locking up at depth. I guess I'd "volunteer" to send mine in too. I was told they have been known to work with some newer pc's with built-in IR. handy!

Yes their was a recall but it was only on some of the very first ones sold most of the ones that this recall affected have already been identified but thanks for the info....
