Anyone known what is Uwatec policy is regarding support for 2nd owners in regards to a Galileo SOL in which the 1st owner purchased from an authorized dealer.

Is the 2 year warranty transferable to the 2nd owner?
Is the future software update (v1.5 and APNEA and tri-mix) available to the 2nd owner?

Lastly, any incentives (such as battery for life) to want to be the 1st owner?

Deciding - new or slighly used.

If purchased in Europe, the warranty is transferable. However here in the states the warranty clearly states the product is warranted to the original purchaser as are most dive computer warranties. That doesn't mean they won't fix it under warranty but it does mean they do not have to. If the original owner is someone you know, then they could help with the issue as well. I would consider it to not have a warranty for purposes of buying it.

Updates not sure.

I have looked at the printed warranty on paper - per the owner's manual. No mention of numbers of owners. Does mention (1) proof of purchase from (2) an authorized dealer is provided - warranty should in tact.

5.3 Warranty
Galileo has a two-year warranty covering
defects in workmanship and functioning.
The warranty only covers dive computers
which have been bought from an authorized
SCUBAPRO UWATEC Dealer. Repairs or
replacements during the warranty period
do not extend the warranty period itself.
Excluded from warranty coverage are faults
or defects due to:
- excessive wear and tear
- exterior infl uences, e.g. transport
damage, damage due to bumping and
hitting, infl uences of weather or other
natural phenomena
- servicing, repairs or the opening of
the dive computer by anybody not
authorized to do so by the manufacturer
- pressure tests which do not take place
in water
- diving accidents
- improper placement of the battery cap.

For European Union markets, the warranty
of this product is governed by European
legislation in force in each EU member
state.

All warranty claims must be returned
with dated proof-of-purchase to an
Authorized SCUBAPRO UWATEC Dealer.

Visit
www.scubapro-uwatec.com for the

Dealer nearest you.

The Polar T31 Coded Transmitter has a twoyear
warranty. For service or replacement,
please contact an authorized Polar Service
Center only. All warranty claims must

include a dated proof of purchase.

I will call UWATEC tomorrow and get it directly from the horse's mouth.

Buying a unit second hand is not buying a unit from an authorized dealer. I would call them before I jumped on something this expensive. Generally speaking most US warranties only cover the original purchaser. The EU warranty is different and specifies a longer warranty and multiple owners.

I pulled this from their website:

Warranty information - SCUBAPRO-UWATEC

Warranty
SCUBAPRO warrants to the original consumer purchaser that, for the period of one year from date of purchase, each SCUBAPRO product component not otherwise warranted, and each SCUBAPRO replacement part, purchased from and authorized SCUBAPRO dealer will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and with reasonable maintenance. This warranty does not apply to any product or part used commercially. A list of authorized SCUBAPRO dealers can be obtained online at SCUBAPRO UWATEC | Deep Down You Want The Best - SCUBAPRO-UWATEC.

My point is that I would not assume the best when it comes to something like this.

Rather than guess I emailed them with this question:

If I buy a used US Uwatec Galileo Sol computer that is still under warranty from the original buyer will it be covered under the warranty after the purchase? The warranty card in the box doesn't specify.

Thank you for choosing SCUBAPRO equipment.
Unfortunately, warranties are not transferable from the original owner.

That is clearly not a GALILEO's warranty. Galileo offers a 2 year warranty.
That looks like the warranty for the discontinued SMART series.

On Monday - Hopefully I will find the time to get it directly from the horse's mouth. As for what is printed on paper. Post #4 is direct from the owner's manual.

Don't know about warranty, but there is no problem for the updates. I bought a second hand Sol in Holland and updated the unit to the gratis new 1.5 software without problems. Update requires serial number, nothing else. Also the upcoming Trimix update should be gratis for the SOL, expected to be issued (hopefully and finally) in March 2011 ( since being promised in 2008).
