Are the Hoya other "big name brand" UV filters worth the extra $$$ over the "no name brand" ones?

please tell me why you think so....

asking for "above water shooting".

thanks. Mike

anyone?

the reason I ask is that some of the reviews on the cheaper ones say that they have glares on the ones that are not multi-coated.

I've never really had a problem with that and I wonder if some of the reviews on Amazon are somewhat biased.

I think I'm going to order this one.

Amazon.com: Hoya HMC Haze UV(0) - Filter - UV - 52 mm: Camera & Photo

It's a few bucks more, but free shipping and I've got something else I need to order from Amazon also.

As far as I know... not much difference in the other Hoya you posted. ? :dontknow:
I looked at the Amazon webpage listing the item. The rightmost customer-submitted picture (by SaM4842) is identical to the one I have. The packaging reads: "Hoya HMC multicoated 52 mm 0.75 pitch slim frame UV(C) filter." I believe that the Hoya UV(0) filter was replaced by the Hoya UV(C) filter. I don't think there's a detectable difference between the two items. In fact, Kellards may actually send you the UV(C) filter. Just make sure that your lens accepts 52 mm filters. That's the correct size to use with the stock Nikkor 17-55mm and 55-200mm lenses. Good luck.

Thanks!

I just ordered the Nikon 35mm AF-S f/1.8. it uses 52mm. so that's what it's for.

The other reason I didn't order from Adorama or other NYC camera shops is that they are all closed now for passover until next week. Then they'll be backlogged and take forever to get in. I should have it in a couple days with Amazon and get free shipping.
