Hi guys,

My 2 friends and I are heading to Utila on March 14th for 4-5 days. We are all wantint to do the open water diver course with either BIDC, dep blue or Gunter's (Ecomarine) dive operators. As for accommodation we have no idea! We just want somewhere basic, but not too basic that we get eaten alive by the sand flies!

Anyway my queries are:
- is it neccessary to book accommadtion & dive courses in advance for mid-March?
- Also, is it that hot that you must have accommodation with a/c, or is just a fan o.k?

Cheers

Sharmin

Hi Sharmin,

March will be 'high season' for the Whale Sharks, so the island does get a bit full, espeically if you're here over Semana Santa (Holy Week/Easter). If you have an idea who you want to do your courses with you might contact them ahead of time. Lots of dive ops offer discounted to free rooms if you're doing courses with them.

March will be on the warmer side, but not so hot a fan wouldn't work, at least at night. During the day you're in the water right?

Sharmin,

LaCuda and I will be on Utila from Feb 20 to Mar. 20. We usually stay in a small hotel with fan for a few days then try to get in a furnished apt for the long haul. Your choice of dive ops is good. BICD is part of Utila Lodge, which is an all-inclusive operation.. very well run. Deep Blue Divers is owned and run by a british family, Ecommarine/Gunters is a laid back dive operation with a spacious pier for sunning and socializing with other divers. It is managed by Hans Grauer. We will probably dive with both Deep Blue and Gunter/s.

Regards,
