The diving is still fantastic on this laid back island of Honduras. Utila is the nursery for fish for the Bay Islands. Therefore every dive has lots of life; bump into a turtle or spotted eagle ray during your dives. The north shore has some amazing dive sites; when it's calm the chances of seeing whalesharks are huge or you can snorkel with the pilot whales or dolphins. Lots to see even snorkeling off the dock, green morays, seahorse, rays, juvenile fish. Take a dive on the wild side, come to Utila. Vern's catamaran still leaves the West End of Roatan every day. Or take the ferry from La Ceiba!

Also an influx of juvenile Atlantic Triple Tails from less than 1 inch to about 4 inches. Two species I had never seen before. Also a bunch of juvenile trigger fish that we were unable to positively identify :/
We also saw a hammerhead shark at Aquarium very recently. Well, when I say "we", I was unfortunately not one of the "we", but our divemasters and customers were!

How is the traveling from San Pedro Sulla to La Ceiba? Interested in going to Coba if we decide on Honduras. Are tours still going to Coba? Waiting for the presidential elections b4 we make any reservations.

When I was there in August I just skipped the whole La Ceiba leg and flew straight into Utila. I did take the ferry on the way back though because I was leaving on a sunday which didnt have direct flights out. Elections smections, Bay islands are far removed from the local politics. If it does bother you however fly straight into Roatan from the US then ferry or fly into Utila and avoid the mainland totally. However as I said I arrived not long after the so-called coup. I traveled through SPS and LC and never once did I feel unsafe or see anything remotely like what was described on CNN. Have fun...however u get there. Its a great place with great people!
Travel from San Pedro to La Ceiba is very easy. The main two options are by plane and bus. Plane tickets can be arranged through the travel agents here on Utila (both English speaking) and bus tickets can be purchased at San Pedro Sula airport. At least last time I was there Hedman Alas bus company had a ticket office just by the exit to the outside.
Hedman Alas are the only one we recommend you can find them at Hedman Alas ::: San Pedro Sula ::: They are safe, comfortable and direct - no stopping for passengers, etc.
It takes around 3 to 3.5 hours to make the journey from San Pedro to La Ceiba, so if you are looking to arrive in Honduras and make it Utila the same day you need to choose an early morning flight, arriving at San Pedro around 8am. Then you should be able to make the 10:20am bus departure to La Ceiba, and from there the 4pm ferry to Utila.
Or you can fly!
As for the elections - well Robert is pretty much right. The Bay Islands have never been affected and the country as a whole really seems to want this over with. Pepe won last night and he is for the National Party (both Zelaya and Micheletti are members of the Liberal Party) so the Honduran vote was to throw out that party and try something new with Pepe. Everything has been peaceful so far. Pepe won by a large majority.
