Stacking doesn't sound like a terrible idea, especially if you're switching between cold and warm water exposure protection, but could just buy a 3mm and a 6mm plate and cut out the hassle. Also, I remember someone saying that 6mm plates limit trim options and that may also be the issue with stacked plates

Thanks for the suggestions it's been helpful. Since this will be a dedicated cold weather setup, I've decided on getting the 6mm plate, since they weigh 9-10 pounds. I like that the edges are rounded.

Will most likely get the Halcyon harness with a HOG wing. Can't wait to get it set up and dive it. Thanks again everyone!

Halcyon makes a weighted STA that’s pretty slick.
I tried this at the beginning of the year to avoid using a weightbelt and hated it.

It was the first time I used a STA and it caused me to roll over on occasion which never happened before even with weights on my tank on a cam belt.

Whilst attaching two plates together is not a bad idea, I'd go for a 6mm plate and avoid the hassle of re-doing the single plate when you dive in warmer waters.
