Many times while on vacations I have seen DM's spitting on tank o-rings to help stop minor leaks. Could this small amount of moisture hurt a regulator or cause rusting inside a steel tank?

No, but when you ask for a new o-ring and they come over and spit on the o-ring and then attach your reg before you can say please don't, then you don't really have an option, lol. I have seen this done twice in Grand Cayman and once in Cozumel. I thought it was strange but they claimed it works.bradshsi:I doubt it would be any more effective then removing the o ring and cleaning it and the sealing surfaces.
Plus if it's your rental tank/regulator he's doing it to, do you really want to be breathing DM spit ?
Empty V:I'd take his 1st stage off and spit on his o-ring and ask him "Now how do you like it?"
I always carry a set of tank o-rings - I don't rent tanks that often, and I have a DIN regulator, but I keep those in my save a dive kit, and if an o-ring needs to be replaced... I replace it.scubadobadoo:Many times while on vacations I have seen DM's spitting on tank o-rings to help stop minor leaks. scubadobadoo:Good idea, but what if he says he does?
Actually I should be ore clear. he DM's spit on a finger and then rub that on the o-ring.
