Two completely seperate set-ups, one for singles & one for doubles. Used to use a single tank adapter to dive a single with the bp/w but got sick of messing with it (remove the doubles, bolt on the STA, thread the cam bands, reconfigure reg set etc. just to redo the whole thing later). So now just I haul out the old trans-pac, weight harness and singles reg for the occasional singles dive and leave the doubles kit alone.

I'd have to order the Dive Rite double tank adaptor for my TransPac and a bigger wing (not to mention manifold and/or extra regulators, etc.).

i have one plate for singles & one for doubles, but that's about to change. soon it will be one plate for wet doubles & one for dry doubles!

are you asking about using doubles with your bc? if so, what one do you have?

Are you asking how to attached doubles to a vest style BCD? Never tried it, but I have an old scubapro glide BC that came with instructions on how to use the bolt holes used to attach the BC to tank carrier with doubles. Again I never tried and have never seen anyone do it.

I don't know anyone who dives double without a Back Plate. I know it can be done, but would not really recommend this approach unless the BC is specifically designed for doubles, and most are not, even if it can be done.

When I want to dive doubles, I remove the bladder from my Back Plate, and install a doubles bladder. Then one must have the regs. I don't have a doubles setup, but have dove them many times borrowing a buddies tanks, regs, and wing. It takes about 5~10 minutes to setup. Bolt thickness can be a factor as I've discovered that my BP bolt holes are too narrow for one of my buddies tanks. It is easy to drill these out, but one must have a drill and bit to do so, and power! These things are not always available at a dive site.

I dive doubles just to become comfortable doing so. I was in the process of setting up a doubles setup, but other things have taken priority for the time being.

Assuming you put a Dive Rite Transpac in the "Back Plate" category I would largely agree with this.

I have dove (diven) doubles with a Scubapro Classic, which has hollow bolts holding its two pieced plastic tank plate together.

But diving doubles is in a sense like learning how to dive all over again, so there is no reason to start with a built in handicap of jerry-rigged gear.

Get a Back Plate for doubles.

Or get a Dive Rite Transpac which is designed to dive doubles without a BAck Plate.

How do you switch from a single tank to doubles with your BC?

You don't.

If you use a plate and wing style BC it is easy, get the single tank adaptor for your plate and put it on the single tank. Then between the dives it is 2 wing nuts to switch out the plate and BC. As for the regs, if you are using two regs on the doubles, put a H-valve on your single tank and the regs switch over directly.

The cons of the above are that the double sized BC is large for a single, so you can get a seperate single BC if you want. If you have to use a single post tank, then to make it easy you can get a reg dedicated to single tank dives.

My standard rigs for a 2 dive day with the first dive in the 130-200' range and the second in the 60 to 130' range are an appropriate sized set of doubles (72's, 80's, 100's, or 125's) with a doubles sized BC and a single 120 with an H-valve, single tank adaptor, and a small BC.
