This can occur if the diver is overweighted, and not using a crotch strap. If the diver is properly weighted he only needs a small puff of gas in the wing.

How does a small puff of gas behind your head and shoulders push you anywhere?

If over weighted the diver will often fill the wing quite full. Now there is gas down around your waist or even lower. Push you forward? You bet.

The key here, like most things in scuba, is use the gear correctly.

True, however in this case I'm not over weighted and the particular BC I'm using (seaquest Raider) was reviewed by diver magazine and the person testing it also said "I found that, however I installed the weights, I was tipped dangerously head-down under water." The full review is here http://www.divernet.com/equipment/1002divertests.htm
Now, I've noticed the same thing with even a small "puff of gas" but not to the extreme the tester in the article did and I think he might be exxagerating a wee bit. It is a great back inflate BC but this is one of the characteristics that I've noticed with this one and others I have spoken to have noticed to some degree in others they have used. I posted "may" and "might" simply to let the original poster know that he "may" experience this as well when chosing his equipment.

Not true, you can buy a DR Transplate package at Diverite Express for $599.00 which includes free shipping.
It includes either a AL or SS plate, deluxe harness, your choice of 16 or 32# weight pockets, crotch strap, 2 SS cam tank straps, and your choice of wing.:D
Does that include a STA?

Again I'll ask the question. If you are properly weighted, and require very little gas in your BC how can that tip you or push you anywhere?

I use a BP/W now (about 6 dives on it) and I Love it. I don't mind having a weight belt on so that's not a huge issue for me. The compensating buckle makes all the difference.

The thing I don't miss about my old BC is how much extra crap it had all over it. Pockets here and d-rings all over the damn place. Not to mention it was positive because of the double bladder and extra padding all over the place. I actually dropped a couple pounds when I switched to a BP/W and I dropped another 4 pounds when I went from my farmer john wet suit to a dry (GO GO Diving Concepts).

Rent one and see how you like it, whatever is most comfortable for you is what's going to matter most.

I'm using the OMS STL BP and Apex WT3 (34lb) Wing. Great quality and both are great. I went with a single piece harness and I haven't looked back.
