We have done a package dive trip (air, hotel and diving) once and that was to Belize. Unfortunately we hated the dive shop but we had already paid for the dives so we stuck it out with them. I don't think we'll ever do a package dive vacation again.

Our dive club books the cenotes apart from the regular dives/hotel. Last year was the first year we did the cenotes and other than from the extensive walk from the ferry to the shop, (blocks and blocks) the experience with the shop was top-notch, the diving was spectacular and they got us back to the ferry in time. A great overall experience.

Interesting poll. My partner and I are off to Playa and Cozumel this Friday (April 15). We will be diving the cenotes as well as the reefs. Just to add detail to my poll answers: we picked a dive operator based on ScubaBoard recommendations and contacted that operator independently.

Me too.

I am not US based, but I have booked my flight and booked the hotel directly with them this time (not a package). I will be booking my Cenote dives directly with the dive operation, I am planning on 6 days of diving so 12 dives all Cenotes.

Wow 45 dives how long is your trip :)

2 weeks. 4 tanks/day the first 3 days, then 3 tanks in the cenotes, 2/day the next 3 days, then 4/day for 5 days is what we're planning currently. It's a lot, so we might cut back a bit.

Wow. I have only done 4 dives a day on liveaboard trips where I can do nothing between dives. I would be asleep for the rest of the trip with so many, let alone the costs involved.

Enjoy your dives :)

I always contact the cenote dive op independently from lodging/flight accomodations. I am based in Colorado.

+1
This what I have done with fine results.
