Just heard on the radio that U.S. Customs will not allow any boats to enter from Canada via water route, all boats must enter by land and be launched in American waters.

I was speaking today, in regards to your info, to the Port Director of the Alexandria Bay Customs Office. Everything is as it was last year...no changes to proceedures or policies.

Entry is fully permitted via water into the United States from Canada, providing that all your paperwork and passenger manifests are in order as per US Customs and Immigration policies and protocols.

Perhaps it was on April 1st and you got fooled!:)

Are you sure there are no changes. Recent note I got said that phone/video phone check in from marinas, etc., would not be permitted, that you must check in at a port of entry and then continue on to your marina. The rest (I-68) reamins the same.

That could be, I just inquired about the no entry by boat issue.
Maybe someone can give us a hand on this one.

I've been told this week, that we will have to check in to us custom an then go back to check out and after that check in to Canadian Custom they say that we wont be able to use CanPass service
I hope they change there mind !!!!

But what about Canadians going over to the US? Not Quebecers? Just having fun Max, see you on the water.

Is the I-68 not designed for individuals on their own boats doing regular crossings and not for a group of divers getting on a charter boat? Is the I-68 not boat specific??

Would the rules change really fast if we set up a Canadian Customs Office on Sparrow Island? We could require all Americans crossing over into Canada to dive in the St Lawrence to report in at Sparrow Island, regardless of which wreck they are diving? Maybe we could restrict the hours of the office to match those of the U.S. office at Heart Castle. Whats good for the Goose is good for the Gander.

Its a crazy idea but so are the rules they are imposing. Its only the law abiding people that are going to report anyways. How many of us had to show the US Border Patrol the way back to their island when they ventured too far off? These poor guys were yanked out of Texas and put on a boat in the Thousand Islands. They should at least give them Charts.

I hear what you are saying and agree.
If I was carrying terrorist over I was a terrorist I think I would skip customs and dash for shore.

Customs,"Why are you entering the states?"
Me,"To bring in weapons of mass destruction"
Customs,"Oh; okay have a nice day"

Customs,"Why are you entering the states?"
Me,"To go diving on an old shipwreck"
Customs,"Sorry the wreck is closed due to homeland security"

It is almost that stupid - and the last paragraph real in the fall 2002. I was on the river about 10 times and never say a border patrol boat once.

Stupid thing is I can boat up to 1 foot off shore and not go through customs, but go for a swim and I am dangering the country. I thought a shower once or twice a day was good enough but maybe not.
