I had the zipper replaced recently on my front entry, formerly self-donning, drysuit. The factory install had the zipper open at the left shoulder and closing as it was pulled down to the right waist. I could easily do this myself.

The replacement zipper is fully open at the waist and closes as it is pulled up to the shoulder. It is impossible to zip the last 6-8" as it crosses the shoulder by myself.

I had far too much trouble with this vendor to consider sending the suit back. The installation is well done and it doesn't leak. IS THERE ANY LOGICAL REASON TO INSTALL A FRONT ZIP THIS WAY?

I have always had my self donning open shoulder close hip!, but this does not mean yours will not function just fine! Hope it works out for you.
See you topside! John

Apparently the DUI standard is now to close at the shoulder so it's not entirely off the wall.

For the reasons you state we ordered our suits last year in the "close at the hip" configuration as a no cost option. I think they called it traditional or something like that.
