I often order gear from US suppliers and have had no problem when they send it USPS but whenever it comes through UPS they hit you with a "brokerage fee". Since I ususally order a bunch of stuff at one a $40 fee doesn't seem that large but recently I ordered $48 USD worth of stuff and they hit me with a $39 CAD fee! Where do they get off?

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

It only took me once to avoid UPS.

I believe if you use their 'Express' service there is no brokerage fee, and often the extra $20 is worth saving at least $40. Don't always count on the express service arriving sooner, however. My best experience has been with DHL. On my last shipment ($410 US for an Aqualung legend supreme & legend octo), shipping was $30 US, and it arrived in two(!) days from Spain (DiveInn). No duties/taxes either! It's been a while now, but I suppose an invoice could still be in the mail, but you'd think they'd be prompt with a bill.

UPS (Air/Express)...I have heard that as well..No brokerage fees. But I haven't tried it, since my bad experience with the ground shipment :)

But nobody is perfect...My experience with DHL is that the regs I ordered from DiveInn were stuck in New York for 14 days. I just got them today.

(18 days total shipping....7 calls to the DHL reps)
