Have been making frequent trips to the Keys from NE Florida over the last few years but have been limiting our stays to Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge because our best friends kept an RV there so it was cheap and we enjoyed the company of our friends, not to mention we really enjoy diving at Looe Key. Our friends have sold their RV so we are both looking for places to stay in the upper Keys starting in the spring. And the wives are new divers so showing them variety would be good. We take our own boat so we have some unique requirements.

Here's our list of criteria:

  • Located ocean side between Pennekamp and Holiday Isle/Postcard Inn - mid-way would be great so we can go north or south to dive.

  • On site marina, boat ramp and trailer parking.

  • Nearby dive shop for air fills.

  • Doesn't have to be a resort, but the nicer the better so the "girls" don't complain!

If you know of a place that would closely match these requirements please pass along some info.

Thanks!

I agree with sportxlh about Ocean Pointe Suites, we've stayed there on our last two trips to the keys, and liked it, and I'm pretty sure it meets all your requirements, although you'd need to check on the availability of marina, ramp, & trailer parking for a rental stay. They have them on site.

Conch Republic Divers is just south for fills etc., and there are plenty others nearby.

I'd disagree with sportxlh about one thing, though - location. It's actually very close to midway between Pennekamp and Holiday Isle. Bummer, another requirement met.

Thanks for the prompt responses guys! And I think you may have nailed it. Looks like a beautiful property and I used google earth to check to check water travel distance from the marina to the sandbar off the Tiki Bar and to the dive spots in Pennekamp and it is within a couple tenths either way! For the quality of the place the in-season rates seem very reasonable.

Thanks again.

Stayed at Ocean Pointe last year and will be down there Dec. 19th of this year. Very nice place, just do not expect much from the "bar/restaurant" unless they have changed from last year. Very limited hours and not much of a menu. Otherwise great place.

Jules Underwater Lodge is expensive, but rather a unique experience.
