cruised out to the speigle today but all the servicable buoys were ocupado @ 0930Z, divers everywhere but blue water and a strong reverse current! then proceeded south to french; crappy viz, then onward to deep molasses. double on M28. sunny skies, light winds, rolling seas, mdt NE current. blue to green dusty water, viz a below average 45-55FT, water temp 82-83F @ 55-90FT. two schools of 3+ eagle rays, moon jellies abundant near surface, overall enjoyable dives. pics from timg,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thanks for the great report reefman! We will be making our first visit in a little over a week. When you say you cruised out to these sites, do you take your own boat? We are taking jet skis with us and are hoping to find some reefs close enough boat ramps that we can do some snorkeling with the family. Have any tips for that in any parts of the Keys?

We are planning on diving while the kids have a babysitter one day but we are going to go out with a local dive shop for that part.

Terrific pictures, I am excited to try out our new camera and housing when we get there!

We are going with a simple Canon S100 with an Ikelite housing. Nothing fancy but something that will allow us to take some still shots. We dive with a GoPro as well but just use it for video.

yes, alot of my diving is from my 22FT cat located on a canal behind the house. mosquito bank and cannon patch(mikes reef) are the closest reefs for decent snorkeling off key largo althought viz is an issue when the wind picks up as they border hawks channel. hens and chickens is a terrifc reef located between tavernier and snake creek, cheeca rocks is also a nice reef located off cheeca resort. maybe some folks(deeperthoughts) living further south can chime in on other patches close to shore,,
