I really don't know what point you're trying to make anymore. You keep changing it.
I already have an Ikelite housing and strobe for my G12. I shoot hardwire, sync cord because I got tired of my old rig with fiber optic. It would kill the camera battery after 2 dives instead of 5 like I have now. So I'm cracking open the housing twice as often which only increases the chances of a flood. I also hated how the flash was all manual and I didn't even have the option to use TTL.
With my current setup, I can do either. TTL or Manual. If I want to put this strobe on another camera/housing that doesn't do hardwire I can add the Ikelite fiber adapter and go that way. I fail to see how I'm "stuck" with anything. The Ikelite DS-161 is as versatile a strobe as I have ever found.
I can most certainly do macro with my setup. I've been shooting it box-stock for 2 years now and only recently added an Inon UCL-165 for even better macro. It works just fine.
