Apparently the road to Ft. Pickens would have been opened up this up coming Thursday(6/23), except that T.S. Arlene with its massive 3' surge managed to destroy the road again. Ivan devestated the dune system along the Gulf Coast so they no longer protect the road, apparently, even from miniscule tropical surges.

Pretty dissappointing, they say its gonna be another 6 months.
