Looking at heading down to San Diego between Xmas and New Years, plan to sneak in a dive or 2. What's the conditions been like and should it clear up quickly? Where would be the best site to dive? or maybe we jump on a boat.

As long as the swells and wind are "reasonable", the boats should make it out at least to the kelp beds and wreck alley. Still though, went out on the Marissa last Sat 18 Dec (Yukon Wreck 2 dives & Ruby E) in a calm period between Pacific Storms, and was "drowning" on the surface in 3-4' swells with an occasional six footer washing over my head, while waiting on the mooring line. No wind, but overcast and a cold surface interval on a rockin' boat; viz at depth was maybe 15' at best with low 60's water temp F.

Not sounding great for out on boat, how about shore dive? Maybe La Jolla Cove? I understand it's well protected. Any beach closers?

I know all of laguna beach is closed. Dunno about SD, but its certainly closer to tiajuana sewer pipes than laguna. You may see some interesting creatures...

Any of the local boats that are planning to go out to Catalina Island will be a good bet including coming out on Catalina Express to dive the dive park. Conditions here during the whole rain event were pretty good most days with 20 to 25 foot vis in spite of the rain. As soon as the rain stopped we had 40 vis. in the Casino Point dive park, and no issues with runoff.

Looking at maybe La Jolla Shores, is there a place to get Air Fills close by?
