Ok gang, after much prodding I'm going to coordinate a "for entertainment only" pumpkin carving this year. If you've never carved pumpkins underwater (or never carved a pumpkin period) this is a great time to start! No pressure to perform for a contest, just pure gourd-maiming fun! (I'm tempted to use this as an opportunity to practice with my new doubles THAT ALONE should be worth the price of admission :rofl3:)

Pumpkin Carving Dive
WHO:
All certified divers and their families and friends

WHAT:
Divers carve pumpkins underwater; non-divers carve pumpkins on shore. Pumpkins will be illuminated underwater during a night dive.

We have lots of good times and good food on the surface, bring along a dish to share.

WHEN:
Saturday October 20, plan to dive/carve at approx. 2:00pm

WHERE:
Gilboa Quarry

WHY:
Carving pumpkins is fun, diving is fun and mixing the two is double the fun!

HOW:
Bring a small to medium size pumpkin and carving tools. Those fancy stencil kits are great! Make sure you can use the tools while wearing gloves.

Pumpkins float (keep that in mind when choosing a pumpkin), you need to bring rocks or lead to sink your pumpkin.

Bring a glow stick (cyalume stick) to illuminate your pumpkin for the night dive

Do any of the pumpkins need rescuing?

You never know, one might end up trapped under a turtled doubles diver :rofl3:

I take it you passed your class :D

Yep, I did!

And, I got back from yet another trip to Virginia . . .

Soooo, is anyone going to come out and carve? :D

I'd love to. Can we wait until spring? Seriously, I did this for the first time last year and couldn't believe how much fun it was and how hard it was.
Why would you want to do it when the water is cold  It was still 71 degrees at Gilboa in the shallows on Monday, we'll easily have high 60's by carving time. You're right, it's a blast and it's challenging :eyebrow:
I am planning on making it there for the carving. Assuming all my new gear works as it's supposed to this weekend.

KEWL! Pumpkin carvings are a great place to check out gear, you can spend a whole tank on the platform. I'll probably have at least one student, maybe more up there and should be far enough along to knock out a quick set of skills and let them carve too. I might not make them neutralize a pumpkin's buoyancy then drag it to the platform, it will after all be their second dive EVER. (then again, if they do well on the first dive :eyebrow:)Ber :lilbunny:

Reminging BER... Doctor's recommendation after a hit and subsequent treatment.
