"There will likely be a diver lock out chamber and moon pool combination so that qualified SCUBA divers can lock in and out of the resort. We are also considering a deep submersible that could depart from the resort with guests and make exploratory trips to nearby reefs and walls."

Thanks for pointing out the link - looks very impressive indeed... since this things will probably be near (or on?) a reef or some other interesting underwater feature with lots of sea life (I suppose putting it on an entirely barren plain or sand or silt would defeat the purpose) I wonder...

- what the environmental impacts will be and how they will be dealt with?
- Also, they'll probably also need to cover a lot of the thing with anti-fouling paint (as there are no friendly alternatives that exist) to prevent it getting stupidly fouled, which is extremely damaging to marine life.

Don't mean to be a hippie, but as a marine biologist I have my doubts and would like to see such issues addressed... any thoughts?

I don't really have the answers. Here is the only thing I could find that would come close to addressing your questions:

Maintainability

With the exception of the central corridor, which is permanently fixed to the structural base of the facility, each individual unit is neutrally buoyant and capable of being removed from the complex - and the water - if necessary. All important systems are shore-based or inside the complex, where they are easy to maintain. Automated viewport cleaning systems obviate the laborious and expensive need for divers to clean the viewport surfaces of marine growth.

I work for one of the world's largest manufacturers of Acrylic. Our product is used in alot of the major aquariums and our product is used in a large amount of hot tubs. For the hot tubs we molecularly bond particals to the acrylic that keeps things from growing on it. I am sure they will be using something of that nature that would not be detrimental to the marine life.

Yeah about my only is for them to use my clients product and my client to pay for me to go do some marketing photos. I ain't holding my breath.

Ya, $1500/night is not cheap, a week will be $10K. For that much I can do a lot of diving with brand new equipment head to toe. I'll see a lot more than if I'm stuck in one spot in a bubble at the bottom of the ocean.

I'm sure a lot of rich celebrities will go there because it's different and exclusive.
