I voted humpback. I love hearing their songs underwater.

Why are whale sharks leading humpbacks 3-1?

Here's my to film dream list: (in no particular order)
Black Brotula
Thresher Shark
Oarfish
Humboldt Squid
Blue Whale

I'd definitely love to see humpbacks again, they are truly amazing. This time with a camera though.

Check out Holbox, Mexico. The operator we used had a money back guarantee that you'll see one if you go in either July or August. We just got back after snorkeling with 5 or 6 of them over a 2 day period. Almost no vis but, still, a really cool experience.

Saw bulls in Fiji, now I'm a big-shark-head. Plan to see great whites in SA next summer, so that leaves tigers out of the big three. My total list of want-to-sees runs something like (in no particular order but, universally, spelled poorly):

Threashers
Hammerheads
Tigers
Pygmie sea horse
Any species of shark I haven't seen (horn, wobbeygong, ...)
Humback
blue whale

All-in-all, we've been pretty lucky on sightings without needing to go to anyplace too exotic:

Manta Ray, Big Island night dive, Hawaii
Whale Shark, Holbox Mexico (virtually guaranteed in July and August)
Ornate Ghost Pipefish, Thailand
Manatee, Crystal River Florida, in winter -- freezing cold but frickin' amazing
Seal, do Sea Lions count? If so, La Paz Mexico

Wade, If you're into sharks you should check out a local shark dive we have. It's off the dive boat Aquatica in Wilmington. I did it in '04 and we saw a number of blues and two makos. They run them year round but I've heard at Sept/Oct is a really good time to go.

Also, there's a whale watching company out of Dana Point called Captain Dave's Dolphin Safari and they do blue whale trips in the summer. You can't go in the water but the boat is a 22' catamaran and you're really close to the water. We saw greys this winter and I really liked their operation.

Sea otters? Are they the same as river otters? I have definitely swam, dove and been harrassed by river otters.

No, they're different (though obviously close relatives).

Where have you swam with river otters? I think they're cute...
