A friend of mine from Greece asked me if I knew anything about underwater communications systems. As a largely solo diver, I'd have no one to communicate with. The only time I've ever been with divers using such a system was during the times I worked with the Cousteaus, but that was years ago and I never used one myself.

She is interested in finding out about good systems that could be used by search and recovery divers and other emergency personnel. If anyone has any good information, please post here or PM me.

TIA

I've seen stuff in Dive catalogs where you can "add" it to your scuba system. Most are made to go in a port on a full face mask. You can also buy a "topside" microphone set for talking with to the dive boat.
The stuff I've seen is $500 to $800 per unit (or more).

You see people on the discovery channel wearing such gear so they can "Narrate" what they are looking at. Like Deep Sea Detectives show.

I just saw a thread the other day in PS Diver's about this exact topic: http://www.scubaboard.com/t82925-.html

They seem to be discussing a system by Ocean Technology Systems:

P.S. I've found a new toy to lust after.

In any case where the diver/s is teathered a wired system is clearer and more reliable than a wireless system.

The folks at OTS are very approachable and will help you to choose the specific system or combination of systems that will suit your teams needs.
