Just bought my G12 a few months ago and this is what I have learnt.
1. The S95 can have wider lenses attached to it where as the G12 can not.
2. The closer you get to your subject minimises the amount of any impurities between you and your subject.
3.Both cameras shoot video. Seriously consider an underwater light as opposed to a strobe. I captured some great images combining the light and flash. eg Dark overhangs illuminated by your light helps with focusing on your subject.
I went with the G12 as I am a full time photographer on land and couldn't really warrant paying for a 5D housing for my slr. The G12 is a nice little compromise.
