The 3rd Sunday of every September is the International Coastal Cleanup. A lot of organizations that usually run the beach cleanups are now looking to scuba divers to help out with Underwater Beach Cleanups! Even if you aren't near this one go to the site to find one near you!

This year we are running an ABOVE and BELOW Water Cleanup at the old OBI on Long Island, NY.
The dive starts at 8am (so be there earlier to setup gear) on September 19th. It's (at most) a 20 foot dive. Current should be minimal because it's slack high tide. Vis is hit or miss. Bring your gear, a catch bag and a knife or shears for fishing line.
The above water clean up will run 10am-1pm so friends and family can come down too (any time really) and help out! Garbage bags and gloves will be provided.

The underwater cleanup is a dive off of the fishing jetty 1 mile west of the main Oak Beach parking lot. The nearest address is 152 Oak Beach Road Babylon, NY 11702
The shore clean up will start in the main Oak Beach parking lot and that address is 1 Oak Beach Road Babylon, NY 11702

Directions:
From Robert Moses Causeway:
Take Robert Moses South to Ocean Parkway West. Once you merge onto Ocean parkway get into the left lane. About a mile down there will be a sign for the Oak Beach turn-around. Take the U-turn and then on the right will be the Oak Beach Parking Lot.

From Wantagh or Meadowbrook Parkways:
Take with one south to Ocean Parkway East. Once you pass the water town at the Wantagh Parkway traffic circle Oak Beach is just over 12 miles on the right side. It is past Gilgo and Cedar Beach. There will be a sign on the right for Oak Beach and the parking lot.

:facebook: Find more information online by searching under Pages: Jimi Rock or Ocean Conservancy

Happy Diving. Hope to see you there! Or hear about your beach cleanup elsewhere!
