Irony and sarcasm through the internet are difficult to ascertain. As for intelligence and aptitude I would gladly throw my hat in the ring for whatever challenge would be deemed appropriate to measure said things.
Perhaps my previous encounters with DIR divers is what led me to treat the post as something that it was not. However, attacking my intelligence is downright rude and across the internet can even be considered cowardice.

I understand sarcasm, ask my wife. My problem reading into people's comments are when a DIR diver starts rambling on about using gear that "mere mortals" use. I looked into DIR when I first started, and the attitude that permeates the crowd turned me off. I dive to have fun, DIR is almost like a cult where you have to drink the kool-aid and like it or else. I got the impression that I was looked down upon for asking why not to dive with xyz gear? So I dive with my gear and am happy, though perhaps my life is in peril and my gear is plotting my demise as we speak.

You're life won't be in peril with xyz gear. But, kool-aid usually tastes much better. It's got extra vitamins, supplements, and like milk, makes you grow bigger and stronger, especially your bones...which makes having fun, easier. Some say it's an acquired taste though...

Wouldn't Quantum Physics be more related than Mechanics?
