Just picked up a U.S.Divers JM Cousteau Royal aqualung regulator. Got it for the gauges but it looks like it has seen little use. Is it worth sending to shop for rework? Anyone famuliar with this reg? CZS

An nice but short lived regulator from USD, designed as an
upgrade Conshelf, the 1st stage very similar to the Conshelf range but not identical, seats OK but pin and spring block different. 2nd stage again some minor parts changed. As the dv is +12 years old I doubt many shops are able to service due to lack of spares. Dont be put off, in good condition it's collectable. Was available in satin or bright chrome finish, 2nd stage in black, blue, or yellow. The 1st stage was so heavy it would make a great clump weight for your anchor!!

I bought one about 20 years ago. Still dive it. It is currently at my LDS getting it's yearly inspection. I have had 2 different shop technicians telling me that it was an early reg from US Divers that was very well designed and produced. Both told me not to bother upgrading until it can no longer be repaired.

I have breathed other regs and I still find this to be a very easy breathing regulator. Until I find something better or cannot get service, I plan to keep diving it. I also like the angled first stage for the hoses.
