Is there anyone here on the board that is living abroad (specifically centrail america) and owns property? Looking for some information/advice on purchasing property and citizenship ins-n-outs.

Kevin

Edit: my target area is Belize

I don't own property here in Belize, but I've looked into it. You don't need citizenship or residence to own land. Most land is sold in US$. If you've got the money you can have the land. No problem.

Are you on a visa hank or did you apply for citizenship?

I have permanent residence, which is like a green card in the US. I came here and stayed on a work permit for the first 4 years. But you don't need either to buy land here. If you come as a tourist you can stay 30 days (no visa if you're US citizen) and need to extend it for another 30 and so on, for a small fee. If you DO apply for residency you have to show that you've been here non stop for a year with multiple stamps in your passport showing you're paid up on extensions. Then you apply, get the medical test (AIDS), chest x-ray, police clearance and if you're lucky, you'll have the card in a year or so.

Thanks for the info Hank! That was exactly what I was looking for!

No problem. Thank SB.
