Just purchased a dvd on the U853 from Captian Pamer. It was fantastic. It was the history of the sub as while as a swim threw the sub and the out side. This video is a must for any diver who plans on diving the u-853 and also a must fthe history buff.

Where did you get the dvd id like to see it. Ive met Captian Pamer a few times out on the 853. Ive dove it many times but i dont know the history of it very well. Please let me know where i can get a copy of the dvd.

Im assuming this is a conversion of the original video taken years ago converted to DVD. If not this DVD is a must have. Ide love to see it in higher definition than what was provided in the video tape. Ill keep a lookout for it.

You can try reaching Bill through this site: http://www.thunderfishcharters.com/Videos.htm. His contact info is at the bottom of the page.

Also, Gary Gentile has a very good chapter about the history and diving the 853 in his Shipwreck of Rhode Island and Connecticut book. http://www.ggentile.com/rhodeislandct.htm

And all the numbers in his book are good too;).

Dennis

Unless he made a new version, I assume this was the one done in the 90's. I bought the video in 2001 and converted it to DVD. It's a decent video of the history and details of the wreck.

It's scary how much it has changed since then. My last dive on it was late 2005. The stern section was broken off but still "in place". The tip of the bow was broken off and lays in the sand. I usually get 8 dives a year on it or so. I will definitely return this year.

The U-853 dvd video form Captain Pamer has a lot of new stuff on it, incuding new interviews and new footage. The older video was great but this video is even better. Bill has made quite a few new digital dvds. My favorite is the new Tarpon video because im in it. First blood sinking of the u-85 , The Black Point , L-8 , and Ship wrecks of Cape Hatters vol 2 are very good too. I spoke with Bill today and told him that there was some interest on his new dvds on this board. He said if anyone wants any of his dvds to give him a call. His number is 1 (203) 269-0619
