One of the divers in our group is unable to make it this weekend, so there is at least one opening available for this weekend's trip to the U-853. Please contact me ASAP if you are interested in filling the spot.

The U-853 rests in 125 ft of often low-vis (5-10') water off of Block Island. There is no lee side, so surface conditions can often be rough.

This is not a good opportunity to try New England diving out, though AOW is all that would technically be required to do a short dive.

k, thanks. maybe this summer, my buddy told me that the bow rests at 90 ft. but hes never actually dove it himself, just heard from others.

The conning tower pokes up to 90 ft, but that's a very small area, and there is no guarantee that is where we would be tied in. The average depth of the dive would be in the 110'-120' range.

The U853 is the most advanced 125' dive I have ever done. No criticism necessary - I would recommend you build your experience in NE diving conditions before planning a U853 trip. I think the Poling stern is a great practice dive for the U853 - rack up 10 dives on the Poling (to experience the varying conditions/vis/etc.) to gauge your comfort for the U853.

Most charters require AOW and a pony bottle if not diving doubles. You can see half the wreck on a non-deco dive. If tied at the conning tower you will have time to go to the bow or stern and back to the conning tower and that's it. As Soggy mentioned - 125' to the sand, 90' to the conning tower, and about 118' along the top of the deck. The vis is usually not that great and sometimes the current is strong. I have experienced hand over hand current, 7' vis, and lights required below 70' at this site. I have also experienced zero current, flat seas topside, 30' vis, and all ambient light.

I am already looking forward to next year to return.....

Soggy or Matt,

assuming a no-deco profile, what mix do you guys use?
