I'm going to be out in San Jose the weekend of the 11th of March and was thinking about doing the drive down to Monterey. The last time I was out diving there, it was December, no wind & 50' of viz.

Was wondering how early does the viz go south in NorCal? I know that it depends year to year, but if it's typically 2feet of viz, I'll head out to the wine country instead of down to dive.

Thanks everyone!

Keep an eye on the weather... As far as vis goes there's a fair chance that it'll be decent (20-30 ish) most of the time. Also don't forget sometimes the vis can differ between 2 sites just 200 yards apart

Here's some planning tools
Chuck T's Monterey Sea Conditions at a glance. Make sure to read Chuck's Tongue in Cheek Guide to Swell Heights. This will exlain alot of the info you see.

The vis typically get's really green sometime in May or June. It was 60-80' today. VBG.

It's very rarely two feet. I've seen that sort of vis only twice in about 1000 dives in
Monterey. We grumble when it gets below 10', which isn't very often on the
offshore sites.
