I use the same method as the Perdix

What he said

If not you can just put the bungee through the holes and do a knot on the top of the slate

I use the first method shown, but with half a grapevine instead of a simple overhand as a stopper knot. I tried out the second method shown this afternoon but it wanted to slip with 3/16" bungee, so I went back to the grapevine.

(FWIW, the grapevine stopper is a little easier to pick loose after having been tightened than the overhand.)

Don't overthink it. there are lots of good ways to run the bungee that all work well. I like making 2 separate loops, in case one ever breaks the other keeps me from losing it. I just tie a simple single knot on each end and pull it super tight. You can make it adjustable if you are creative, they all work pretty well.

Agree with Jack Hammer. Two loops for the reason given and a grapevine knot.
It took me a couple of tries before I got the loops the right size so that the slate would feel just right on my arm. Something you should be able to do in the field in a couple of minutes...

I’m a chick. OF COURSE, I’m going to over think it! :D

I tie mine loose enough to get on easily over gloves and gear and then I pull the slack out and tuck the slack under the slate. It stays just fine and is very easy to get on and off.

Once I had try to tie two round ropes ends to make strap for my swimming googles.
I had try MANY knots, but when you pull rope ends - all of them was untied easy, because two ropes rotates together.
And I found just one knot, that never untie when rope ends rotating - Double figure EIGHT knot

When you pull rope ends - it rotates, but both ends to same direction, and it just tie strongly.

You can use it for thin bungee.
