There is almost NEVER a "full accident report".
Just look through this forum. I challenge your to find me 10 "accident reports" given the hundreds of diving fatalities that are posted on Scubaboard.

I'm not sure how "full" you expect it will be for this accident, after all both of them are missing.
IMO, others will try their best.
Xu is a famous and popular diver in China, there will be strong demand for detail report.

I think asking what the bailout plan was is reasonable. The point of this forum is to try and make heads or tails out of incidents so they aren't repeated by others.

Either you have info or you don't. Comments like "wait for the report" are not helpful at all.

Well, that may not actually be accurate. Some coroner's inquests to make it to news and show up on my google dive accident feed, and sometimes I manage to find the old accident thread and add it there - as do others. I think a lot of those get missed here on A&I forum as readers see a new post to an old, well hashed thread, and think why bother.

Yet, I still agree with you. We often use these accidents to discuss what-ifs and what can be done to avoid them, so a lot can be learned from discussing the accident even if we don't know for sure what happened.

Now it would be nice if these members who whine "wait for the report" would volunteer to find and post the findings of inquests. Maybe we should ask them to do so, but go ahead and discuss risks and prevention anyway. You can always ask them to review the rules in these threads...

I'm neither a member of that project nor a member of the search & rescue team.
I don't have the detailed dive plan, and don't feel appropriate to ask for it now when all the members I know are still busy searching for the missing divers.
Since both divers are missing, no eyewitness of what actually happened underwater during the accident, I believe we need more evidence for discussion of causes and remedies, and there is no better way than locating them first.
I will try to update valuable info here when available, if not already by someone else then.

P.S.
Above planned depth number in #12 was from a project member diver's public posting, but he edit it out later, temperature and visibility info was from a search diver after the accident, and there is a photo showing Min. 6°C in the first day of the planned project.

Some background information here is not accurate, such as Xu being the first GUE Cave 2 diver in China.
But that's not important now anyway.

GUE is historically very good with incident reports on GUE expeditions when something happens. i would be surprised if they are not forthcoming when they have done one on this.

Update from GUE China on Sep 11-13

Sep 11:
Divers continued to conduct underwater search while waiting for sonar scan results from the previous day, 9958 volunteers conducted surface and towed sonar search

Sep 12:
The boss of LCSonar provided result of sonar scan done on Sep 10, one of them was highly suspicious by rescue team.
In the afternoon, divers were despatched to conduct underwater search, but there was a deviation in terms of GPS coordinates and they could not locate the exact position.
Later the day, a senior manager from company A (I am sick of looking up the translations for company names), another tech company B, and another tech company C, carried advanced equipments such as Multibeam echosounder forming the first echelon. They performed final tests for equipments and drew up action plan for Sep 13 aiming to provide a profile for the dive site as well as helping divers to pinpoint the suspicious locations.

Sep 13:

8'o clock in the morning, search operation resumed. Under the cooperation of company A under the senior manager Mr Tsui, company L's team, and divers, they finally located the suspicious object and conducted an underwater examination, unfortunately that was just a rock in a strange shape.

Upcoming plans:

Company L's would draw up a dive site profile using sonar results from previous days. They would also work with a team with initial O to form the second echelon using ROV, USBL, and highly accurate sonar to conduct searches.

All rescue teams are working corporately with the aim of finding the missing divers asap.

The GUE update ended with a bibliography of manager Fong from Company L:

Fong (1953 - present) successfully found a plane black box previously for in 2002. CEO of company L (with a shot description of the company), and CEO with another company as well. Info about where he graduated and obtained his MBA from. He found company L in 1992, and achieved great commercial success in marine science and earth science (I don't even know what the author wanted to express in here)

One missing diver has been located by ROV's imaging system at 62m depth, 17:10 (GMT+8) on Sep 17, 2017.
This is from a short push notification by GUE-China's social media platform on WeChat, has to be viewed by mobile phone App, no WWW link for now.
It also says the search and rescue work for another missing diver continues, and subsequent details will be disclosed as soon as possible.

It's now speculated electrofishing by local fishermen caused this fatal accident.
