Don't bother with worring about "future needs". Fact is reguardless of the BC you get, you are going to have to buy another one if your diving changes a lot. Even the much touted BP/wing is no exception. Going from singles to doubles you will need to change so much (wing, bands and other bits) and is such a pain in the rear the swap out that you will end up with multiple back plates and harnesses. Even going from cold local waters to warm tropical waters makes owning a different BC very desireable. The steel back plate and 50 lb wing perfect for cold water is heavy and bulky and with airlines the way they are today a lot of unwanted weight and volume. A light travel BC is really called for. Forget the one size fits all approch, it's not realistic. Sure you can press one BC into doing it all but it will not be anywhere near optimal. Find a BC that meets your current needs without breaking the bank for now and plan on buying another one or 2 as your diving needs change.

i'm now being sorely tempted by zeagle BCDs.
They dont sell them much in the UK but clearly these are high quality items.

The brigade seems like a great buy and if I'm happy with back inflation then the Ranger can take twins to a good brand to be with

The ranger is a great bc. I have one and liked it but it is huge in size and weight, if you travel it is like traveling with a dump truck. If you want to do doubles Zeagle recommends putting a back plate on the inside so you are almost to a back plate already. Unless you need lots of weight (30 +#) the 44# lift bladder is huge for singles.

I got an Express Tech from Zeagle and much prefer it to the Ranger for warm and cold water diving. It packs up very small and light for travel with the 24# wing in the tropics. When at home I put the Ranger 44# bladder on and it works well for the cold water here in Minnesota and my steel tanks. If I want to do doubles I will get a Zeagle plate and some webbing and transfer the 44# wing and accessories from my other BC's and have the proper setup for Doubles.

As others have said if Double are in the foreseeable future go with a backplate wing now, if not get the Ranger or Brigade (Ranger with a smaller bladder.) If air travel is in the picture the Ranger is not practical because of size and weight A Trans Pac or Express Tech travel much better.
