I'm pretty sure I didn't have a stroke . . .

ALTHOUGH YOU WOULDN'T KNOW IT FROM THE NEWSLETTER - I don't know what the hell happened with the lobster article, but it was riddled with spelling errors and two factual errors. I really do spell-check these things but maybe didn't do a SAVE. At any rate, here are the corrections:
• I stated that minimum size for lobster is 3.75". Nope. It's 3.25".
• I stated that we hadn't had a fatality since August 2018. Nope. We had one August 2020.
• I'm aware that "Californfia," "Satuerday," "victiom," and "Thurtsday," are all misspelled.
Like I said, no clue as to how it happened but thanks to those of you kind enough to gently point out the error of my ways (and newsletter).

LOBSTER OPENING WEEKEND - Despite our hopes, we didn't make it through unscathed. There were two fatalities and there isn't much info on either one. The first occurred Saturday late morning around Anacapa and the second was Saturday afternoon around Ripper's Cove on Catalina. We'd again remind you, especially if you haven't been in the water for a while, to take it slow and easy. And make sure you watch your air. It's very easy to get so excited about the hunt that you neglect to track air supply. IMHO, if you've consumed more than 500psi since the last time you checked, you're not checking often enough. Much better to be an over-checker than an under-checker, let alone to end up at an undertaker from your under-checking.

COVID TESTING AT AIRPORTS - In the newsletter, I mentioned that Hawaiian Airlines and United Airlines were going to start offering pre-flight COVID testing for their customers/passengers. Seems like some other airlines may follow suit. The L.A. Times did an article about it that you might find interesting: AIRPORT COVID TESTING.

OCTOBER 14 TO AVALON - I also mentioned that we're moving our October 10 Avalon trip to mid-week, specifically Wednesday, October 14. I've already had three people express interest in going so I'm assuming we'll have enough to make a go of it. Remember that, for COVID reasons dealing with both diving and transporting ourselves from the Mole to the Casino, we cap the group at 9 people. So if you're interested, call us at 310/652-4990 or e-mail me.

AVALON UNDERWATER CLEANUP - Even though the event is in February, we start the planning many months ahead of time. (Same thing for Chamber Day/Eve.) Obviously one of the concerns is how we do this event if COVID is still active five months from now (and we assume it may be calmer but not fully gone by then). So we're unsure of what's what. We do know that as of now, the City of Avalon doesn't want to issue the permits we would need to be able to do the post-dive awards ceremony (too many people packed too close together). That may change as time goes on but who knows? We have a Zoom meeting scheduled for this week to discuss the various options. As we figure out what's what, we'll let you know.

NTSB CONCEPTION REPORT DUE OCTOBER 20 - Just a reminder (and I'll do this next week and the following) that the NTSB will deliver their final report on the Conception fire on October 20, starting at 6:30AM PDT. It will be live-streamed and the general public is invited to observe. I'll give you the URL for the video link once it becomes available.

PUT THE "OCTO" IN OCTOBER - I don't get Netflix but everyone who does (and who dives) is raving about "My Octopus Teacher" which is currently screening. Here's the trailer. Sounds like a nice way to spend 85 minutes (runtime): MY OCTOPUS TEACHER TRAILER.

And that'll do it for now. Have a great week, wash your hands, wear your mask, don't forget to vote (where early voting is available), and let's go diving soon!!!
