Hi everyone!

I am new to scuba diving and I was wondering what people thought of the Tusa Tri-Ex Open Heel Dive Fins. Should I get them or stay away?

Trista :D

You read my mind, I was about to post a simular thread becuase the LDS I am getting certified at recomended these as a budget solution for fins. The said if I go splits go Mares Raptor($140) or Biofins($170), but If I wanted to save some money they could get us the Tri-Ex's for $60. None of those prices reflect the 10% discount they are giving us. So how are the tri-exs

I dive with them, they are pretty good with a flutter kick. Not so good with a scissor kick or maybe it's just me. If you dive in cold water and need heavy boots, the foot pocket seems a little small. I'm actually looking to replace them with Oceanic V-16's. Overall a good value, but I don't think these would make good lifers. Hope it helps.

Myself and the wife both on tri-ex's. There pretty good fins, but a bit on the stiff side. If you have fairly weak legs, then they may cause you to cramp a little. we had to get a softer fin for the wife because of the cramping issues. They don't bother me, and because of the stiffnes you can cover some ground in a hurry, but you work a little harder. I like mine, but i haven't tried a lot of others. The wife has now used a pair of Genesis Aquaflex's, and a is gonna try some
Genesis Response fins. She likes the Aquaflex's a lot more. I hope this helps a bit.

I agree with mpd525.

Both my wife and I dive with the TUSA TriEx fins.

They are a stiff fin. In my opinion, they work well in most situations, including a good, full scissor kick. In rescue situations, I've had people comment on how quickly I moved through the water.

If you have weak leg muscles, these will definitely give you leg cramps more frequently than a split fin or a fold-up style fin such as the Mares Volo.

I recently got a pair of the ABS Mantaray fins. I must say that I am impressed with them.

My daughter and I use them. A good all around fin. I like them for wreck and drift diving. You don't have to kick like hell to get going rapidlt. This is not a flimsy or budget fin. They should last me a long time.

$60 a pair is a good price. These often go for around 90 dollars.

flutter kick, frog, scissor, whatever your favorite kick, the Atomic Splitfins are hands down the best. They give you power, propulsion, and with lack of leg cramps for ANY user, they are also the most versatile. I have sold hundreds of Atomic splits to customer with the personal guarantee, if they don't like 'em, I myself will purchase them back.... well, I haven't had the chance to buy back any more fins. Everyone loves them.. They're only downside is the $200 price tag. Hands down the most expensive.

Pros: flexible, lightweight, power, propulsion, no leg cramps (even after 6hrs worth of diving in a single day), available in spring strap and 7 different colors.

Cons: $200 price tag

I'm not sure I would agree that the Tri-Ex are stiff fins. Compared to my other fins they are easy on the legs. If you look at their side profile, they have an exaggerated bend, which makes it easier on your legs on the down stroke. The upstroke is a little stiffer, but overall I would not call these stiff fins. Don't be afraid of them.

If you are looking for soft fins, look into splits. But remember, go easy on the soft fins. It is easier to overpower them.
