I hate to ask this question, but does this computer stay on all the time or is there a way to turn it off while not in use to prevent battery wear and tear.

I recently purchased a dive package and this computer came with it. I'm reading through the manuals to come up to speed when I noticed I really can't turn it off. I read through the manual again and still didn't see it. So - I thought to ask.

I'm also a bit worried about lcd / display burn in for whatever was left displayed.

Thanks - if I missed something in the manual I apologize. I have yet to see it though.

Have a good evening.

I know my very old Suunto computer acts like a watch when it's "off." Apparently it uses very little battery power, and this way it could never accidentilly be left off during a dive. Makes me think of wearing it to class sometimes :)

Don't worry about it. I've had mine for over a year/70 dives and have not had to replace the battery. When you do it is user replaceable, but when you do--- put a quarter in a vise, and put a lot of downward pressure while turning the computer around the quarter. It's very tight... I tried to replace my battery out of paranoia before a dive trip and ruined the coin slot. TUSA sent me a new battery cover but I still haven't changed the battery since my first attempt back in September.

It is a great computer, you'll enjoy it. I'd buy another or one of its siblings (maybe a Cressi Archimede 2) if mine were lost. It is so easy to read and use. Mine is much more conservative, even on its lowest setting, than my friend's Atom 2, and I like it that way.

my NitekHe doesn't turn off either ... just turns into a watch

it's just the way some computers are designed

I'm a big fan of this computer, and it's true that after 48 hours of surface interval time the computer just reverts back into a watch mode. I've done well over 130 dives with my IQ-700 and haven't had to change the battery yet so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Ok - thanks for all the information. My first computer and thought it was odd. As I mentioned, I'm reading all the information on my new equipment before I go into the water :)

Thanks again - I appreciate it.

We have had them in our rental fleet ever since they came out years ago and we just replaced them this year with the Atmos 2 and put them in the used closeout section after we replaced the batteries for the first time in 5 years! And I don't think they even needed it then!

Thanks

Joe
