Good day

I'm planning a trip to Truk in Sept, have always wanted to go there and I ain't getting younger. I want to be prepared. So:
- What are the recommended ratings/Qualifications to get the most out of the trip? currently AOW/Nitrox
- Planning 4 days of diving, 1 day to fly, 5 days total
- thinking about staying at truk stop as opposed to a liveaboard, mostly because liveaboards are 8 days...time factor
- Equipment to bring? I'd like to travel as light as possible

Thanks in advance!

I would imagine it would depend on the type of diving you plan to do.

I am headed there myself for the first time next June, with a group from our local dive club. Among us will be newbies like myself, some with 1 or 2 visits, and some returning for the 7-8 time.

Most plan on doing the deeper sites so we have done the Advanced Enriched Air and Tek Lite courses, but others with multiple visits are just as happy viewing the wrecks and what has grown upon them from shallower depths.

There are a number of books available that describe the various sites including:

which may help you get a feel for the sites you want to visit while you are there, and then plan accordingly.
